Radiologist

Radiology

A radiologist is a medical specialist who primarily focuses on making diagnoses using additional tests. A well-known example of an additional test is an röntgenfoto.

The radiologist uses X-rays, ultrasound scans, MRI scans and CT scans to determine what is causing the complaints. This makes organs, bones, muscles and other tissues visible so that they can be assessed.

Some radiologists not only make diagnoses but also carry out treatments, such as angioplasty for a narrowed blood vessel. During the treatment, the radiologist uses imaging techniques to check that everything is progressing as planned. This is called interventional radiology.

A radiologist works closely with the radiographer, who operates most of the equipment. Other doctors often ask the radiologist to help make a diagnosis by assessing an röntgenfoto or scan.
