Myofeedback

With myofeedback, the electrical signal that a muscle emits is measured using electrodes. Myofeedback thus provides information about the degree of muscle activity at rest and during movement.

Thanks to myofeedback, it can be determined during treatment whether a muscle is relaxed or very tense. Via a visible and/or audible signal on the device, we gain insight into muscle activity.

Myofeedback for examination and treatment

Myofeedback is used for both examination and treatment. During the myofeedback examination, one checks whether there is high or low muscle tension. The treatment is aimed at consciously tensing or relaxing the muscle or muscles. Thanks to the feedback that the device provides, very conscious practice is possible. Based on (relaxation) exercises and advice, it is hoped that later, even without using the myofeedback device, the right balance can be maintained.

Pelvic physiotherapists regularly use myofeedback to measure the activity of the pelvic floor muscles. Myofeedback is also used to make people aware of issues such as sitting very tense behind their desk. In such treatments, posture and the workplace are also examined and must both be optimised.

In addition to the myofeedback devices used in the practice, there are also portable variants. The advantage of this is that they can measure over a longer period and can therefore be used during someone's daily activities. Myofeedback shows many similarities with electromyography (EMG examination).
